Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-September 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 162.5 mio t of coal (-16.6 mio t or -9.3% y-o-y).

The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 48.4 mio t (-3.7 mio t or -7.1% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 114.1 mio t (-12.9 mio t or -10.2% y-o-y).

Coal companies produced 106.7 mio t (-8.4 mio t or -7.3% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 55.8 mio t (-8.2 mio t or –12.8% y-o-y) through underground mining.

In January-September 2022, 132.6 mio t (-15.6 mio t or -10.5% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 88.1 mio t (-16.1 mio t or -15.5% y-o-y) for export, 24.1 mio t (-2.1 mio t or -8.0% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 12.8 mio t (+1.4 mio t or +12.3% y-o-y) to local сoal-fired power plants.

Coal-production

As of October 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 18.9 mio t (+2.9 mio t or +18.1% to October 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass vs. 2021 continues for the eighth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see the chart below).
