Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-October 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 181.5 mio t of coal (-19.2 mio t or -9.6% y-o-y).

The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 54.4 mio t (-4.3 mio t or -7.3% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 127.1 mio t (-14.9 mio t or -10.5% y-o-y).

Coal-production

Coal companies produced 120.0 mio t (-9.2 mio t or -7.1% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 61.5 mio t (-10.0 mio t or –14.0% y-o-y) through underground mining.

In January-October 2022, 148.6 mio t (-13.8 mio t or -8.5% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 98.7 mio t (-17.8 mio t or -15.3% y-o-y) for export, 26.7 mio t (-2.4 mio t or -8.2% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 14.4 mio t (+1.7 mio t or +13.4% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.

As of November 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 19.0 mio t (+2.6 mio t or +15.9% to November 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass vs. 2021 continues for the ninth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see the chart below).
