In January-August 2022, Ukraine’s coal imports fell to 4.4 mio t (-8.7 mio t or -67% y-o-y).
Russian supplies to Ukraine amounted to 1.7 mio t or 39% in Ukraine’s overall coal imports for the period January-August 2022. Ukraine has terminated supplies of Russian coal since late February 2022 in the wake of Russia’s military operation. Thus, the specified volume of Russian coal was delivered in Q1 2022.
The remaining volume of 2.7 mio t or 61% Ukraine received from the United States, Australia, Colombia, Kazakhstan and other suppliers.
As of September 14, 2022, Ukraine’s coal inventories totaled around 2.2 mio t (+1.2 mio t or +129% y-o-y).
In 2021, Ukraine imported 19.6 mio t (+2.6 mio t or +15% y-o-y).
