The court suspended mining operations at Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine in Kuzbass for 90 days in accordance with documents from the local Rostekhnadzor, a Russian regulator for ecological and technological issues. After an earthquake rock collapsed, killing two people.
On July 05, 2022 in Mezhdurechensk of the Kemerovo region there were recorded two earthquakes of magnitude 4.3 and 3.2. The first earthquake caused the rock collapse at Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine. At the time of the earthquake 190 people were underground, 188 of them were evacuated, two injured miners were taken to hospital, and two other workers died.
Large-scale safety checks at underground and open-pit mines in Kuzbass, initiated by Rostekhnadzor after the explosion at Listvyazhnaya mine (SDS), led to the suspension of operations at more than 20 mines in January-June 2022.
In July 2022 Rostekhnadzor also halted coal production at three SUEK mines in Kuzbass, including Kirova Mine, Rubana Mine and Taldinskaya-Zapadnaya-2 mine, due to industrial safety violations.
PJSC Raspadskaya (part of Evraz) comprises coking coal mining enterprises, including Raspadskaya mine, open-pit mine Raspadsky, Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine, as well as Mezhegeyugol, Alardinskaya, Osinikovskaya, Uskovskaya, Erunakovskaya and Esaulskaya mines. The company’s proven and probable coal reserves under the JORC classification were estimated at 1.8 billion t by the end of 2021.
Evraz coal extraction in H1 2022 amounted to 10.1 mio t (-1.6 mio t, or -13.4% y-o-y). Coal production at Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine in January-June 2022 decreased to 0.5 mio t (-0.1 mio t or -16.7% y-o-y).
