Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-May 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 93.1 mio t of coal (-4.7 mio t or -4.8% y-o-y).

The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 27.1 mio t (-1.6 mio t or -5.6% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 66.0 mio t (-3.1 mio t or -4.5% y-o-y).

Coal-production

Coal companies produced 60.8 mio t (-0.2 mio t or -0.3% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 32.3 mio t (-4.5 mio t or –12.2% y-o-y) through underground mining.

In January-May 2022, 74.3 mio t (-8.0 mio t or -9.7% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 49.3 mio t (-8.2 mio t or -14.3% y-o-y) for export, 13.5 mio t (-0.6 mio t or -4.3% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 7.0 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +2.9% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.

As of June 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 19.0 mio t (+4.1 mio t or +27.5% to June 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass continues for the fourth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia.
