Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-April 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 75.2 mio t of coal (-2.8 mio t or -3.6% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 21.8 mio t (-1.3 mio t or -5.6% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 53.4 mio t (-1.5 mio t or -2.7% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 49.1 mio t (+1.4 mio t or +2.9% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 26.1 mio t (-4.2 mio t or –13.9% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January-April 2022, 60.2 mio t (-4.8 mio t or -7.4% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 39.6 mio t (-5.3 mio t or -11.8% y-o-y) for export, 10.9 mio t (flat y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 5.7 mio t (+0.3 mio t or +5.6% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of May 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 18.1 mio t (+2.1 mio t or +13.1% to May 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass continues for the third month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia.
